Monrovia-The Magisterial Court at the Temple of Justice has arrested and is prosecuting a 51-year old man identified as Bobby Domah Parker for allegedly subjecting a Chimpanzee to drinking excessive alcoholic beverages and smoking of cigarette, something that got the animal to become more aggressive and begun to put community dwellers at risk.
Magistrate L. Ben Barco of the Monrovia City Court ordered defendant Parker arrest on May 1, 2023; thus bringing him under the jurisdiction of the court to face trial for possession of live animal without permit and cruelty to animals.
According to court document, during the period of January up to May 1, 2023; the defendant having no permit or license to keep such live animal, purposely had been in possession of the chimpanzee over said period of time and subjected the animal to such cruelty of excessive smoking and drinking of alcohol.
The court record stated that the action of Defendant Parker to give the animal alcohol and cigarette had exposed it to imminent danger, thereby moving all around the community running behind some of the community dwellers occasionally, and attempting to even bit some of them.
During investigation conducted with the defendant, he openly admitted being the owner of the rescued chimpanzee and that he bought said animal for USD350 from a male only identified as “Issa”.
The investigation also established that the animal had been with defendant Parker for a little over one year and that he gave the chimpanzee the name “Serena”.
Additionally, the investigation established that the defendant had failed to keep the chimpanzee in a secure area, but instead he allowed the animal to be moving all around the community in Samukai Town, Monrovia.
In furtherance of the investigation, it was established that defendant Parker had no permit or license to keep such live animal, which is a clear violation of the 2016 Act titled:”National Wildlife Conservation and Protected Area Management Law of Liberia.”
