Police in Monrovia are investigating a 31-year old man identified as Nipay T. Karpeh for allegedly using social media to cyber bully and blackmail several women as means to generate funds for survival.
Defendant Nipay latest victims are two Liberian women identified as Gifty N. Williams and Janet Bright who complained to police authority about the defendant posting their
nude photos and Videos on the social media.
The Defendant was acquainted with his constitutional rights; and subsequently charged with the commission of the crimes disseminating Obscene Materials, Criminal coercion and disorderly
Conduct in violation of Chapter 18 subchapter 18.7, Chapter 14 subchapter
14.27 and Chapter 17 subchapter 17.4.
Police spokeswoman Cecilia Clarke told a news conference Monday, May 20, 2024 that the complaint was officially booked at the CSD Charge of Quarters
While awaiting the arrival of defendant Nipay from Dubai.
Madam Clarke said the investigation received copies of the Photos and Video for analysis
while the Defendant particulars including his photographs were shared
for possible arrest.
On Saturday, May 11, 2024, the defendant arrived at the
Robert International Airport and he was arrested by Officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency and turned over to the Liberia
National Police.
Victim Gifty informed the investigation that she got connected to the defendant through Facebook in 2016 and afterward, the
friendship became serious and they started to call each other on video.
She asserted that, at one point in time when he (Nipay) called her on video while she was naked in the bathroom, he unknowingly recorded her and kept the video.
According to victim Williams, she and the defendant stopped talking at the end of 2016 because she was getting
married to somebody different.
She further asserted that, in 2017 she got married and was no longer in communication with Defendant Nipay.
Victim Williams lamented that, in 2021 she joint a chart room called
“RASO TAKE ME AWAY” while she was in Dubai and in that chartroom, a
girl she earlier had misunderstanding with posted her nude photo and was surprising to her as to how she got the photo.
Accordingly, when she came to Liberia the defendant posted her entire nude video in the chartroom and at which time she got to know that, the recording of her nude video was done by the defendant.
The other victim, Janet Bright, a resident of America, informed the investigation that sometimes in 2022,
she got connected to Defendant Nipay T. Karpeh popularly known as ‘Raso
Daso’ on social media platform owned and hosted by a lady called Charlotte
Roberts.
According to her, the platform was like a social church of which she
was one of the sponsors and at a point time Raso who was also part of the
platform started to insult one of the financials and moral supporters of the
church who was a close friend to her; he cyber bullyed the lady.
According to her, she made several attempts to advise him to stop but he continued to post
disparaging things about the lady and her family.
She asserted that, after he
refused all the pieces of advice she gave him; he started posting her photos
including her nude at the same time ranging insults at her.
During Police Investigation Conducted with Defendant Nipay, he admitted to the allegation of
posting Victim Gifty T. Williams nude photos and videos.
According to him, he apologized to her (Victim Gifty) and she accepted
his apology and he thought the issue was being resolved, but to his surprise,
he was informed that Victim Gifty T. Williams took the case to the Police.
The investigation observed that Defendant Nipay T. Karpeh used Social Media
to cyber bully and blackmail women as his mean to generate funds for his
survival.
